The Celestron StarSense AutoAlign helps you become an instant astronomer, even if you've never used a telescope before. Just set up the accessory, push the Align button on the hand control, and StarSense begins capturing and comparing images of the night sky against its internal database. In about three minutes, it's gathered enough information to triangulate its position and align itself. Then, press the Sky Tour button: and StarSense will automatically slew to all the best stars, planets, galaxies, currently visible in the night sky.The self-alignment technology behind the award-winning SkyProdigy series is now available for all of Celestron's current computerized telescopes and backwards compatible with many older models as well. (Please check compatibility).A small digital camera takes the place of your finderscope and attaches using one of two provided mounting brackets. The included StarSense hand control, with a database of over 40,000 celestial objects, takes the place of your NexStar hand control. The camera automatically captures a series of images of the sky. StarSense identifies the stars in the images, matching them to its database. Once a positive match is confirmed, StarSense calculates the coordinates of the centre of the captured image, thereby determining exactly where the telescope is pointed. Before StarSense, using a computerized telescope required a lengthy alignment process of finding and centering at least two bright stars in the telescope's eyepiece. But StarSense automatically aligns itself with minimal user input. Just enter your time, date, and location and let StarSense do the rest!Even the most advanced telescope users will love using StarSense AutoAlign. This affordable accessory replaces the expensive software usually used for advanced mount modeling.Features- Enables automatic alignment of your Celestron computerized telescope*- No need to identify or locate any star in the sky StarSense automatically aligns your telescope, so you can begin observing in minutes- Aligns in 3 minutes or less- Provides advanced mount modelling - align on numerous stars throughout the sky for extremely precise GoTo pointing accuracy- StarSense hand controller included* StarSense Autoalign Compatibility ListAny mount with 5.x or greater is compatible with the softwareAdvanced VX, CGX-L,Astro Fi, CPC, CPC DX,CG-5 (with CG-5 Aux. splitter), NexStar Evolution,CGE,NexStar GT (2015 models and newer with Aux. splitter),CGE Pro, NexStar SE Series,CGEM II, NexStar SLT,CGEM, CGEM DX, SkyProdigy,CGX,
Celestron's StarSense Explorer is the world's first telescope range to use a smartphone and app to analyse and navigate the real-time position of objects in the night sky. With the user-friendly app interface and step-by-step tutorials, beginners can easily explore the stars as if they had their own personal tour guide.
The range features several optical designs, depending on the specific model. These designs include reflectors, refractors, and catadioptric telescopes.
The StarSense Explorer works with most modern smartphones, including iPhone 6 and upwards, and most devices running Android 7.1.2 or later manufactured since 2016.
Top-selling telescopes in the StarSense Explorer range include the Explorer LT 114AZ and the LT 80AZ telescopes.
Popular new additions to the range include the StarSense Explorer 8" Dobsonian Telescope and the StarSense Explorer 150MM Tabletop Dobsonian Telescope.
Our recommendation from the Explorer range would be the StarSense Explorer DX 130AZ,which is simple to use with the Starsense app - ideal for beginners and experienced astronomers alike.
Worth a mention are the Royal Observatory Greenwich StarsSense Explorer DX 100AZ and the latest version of the StarSense Explorer 130MM Tabletop Dobsonian Telescope.

Waited a long time for this to come back in stock and after a couple of weeks of frustration due to weather not allowing me to complete set up I have at last been able to test over the last couple of nights and it is superb. I have difficulty finding things looking through the eyepiece but once set up and aligned properly then you are off. Last night it took me directly to Mars which appeared in my eyepiece. I would h ave spent ages trying to find it if in fact i managed it. It went then to the Moon and Jupiter and even to Capella. It is superb but important to remember to align to telescope. Only required once and not to disturb your telescope whilst in use. Expensive but worth it in the long term

After initial disappointment that the auto align continually failed and that the Celestron Firmware Product software would fail to load properly on my iMac, a firmware update via a windows laptop and hey presto success. Since then i've auto aligned using both the hand controller and the SkyPortal app, both take less than 5 mins to align and then i'm off exploring the galaxy, well at least when the weather permits. So some clearer instructions from Celestron to check for firmware updates when initially installing would have been helpful. Otherwise i'm impressed by the ease of use and accuracy of the StarSense AutoAlign.

Fantastic piece of astronomy equipment! It has cut my time down to just a few clicks and I just watch it go. My daughter says if I give it wheels, my telescope will become a robot hell-bent on astronomy. Next step, WiFi!
Firmware needed updating, which required a bit of time and third party software downloads to run the Celestron updater but other than that the jobs a good 'un!

Am really pleased PicStop offered this Celestron product at a competitive price. Delivery was prompt, Now its time to put it to the test!
If you want to use the handset that comes with this you have to update the software to work with telescopes post 2016. And it is a right rigmarole! Thankfully you can still use the Skyportal app instead - but this is not the point. Once set up with the app it is fabulous to behold the telescope going directly to the specific object you choose.Still, I wish that it was updated before being sent out - it is 4 years out of date!
I am extremely happy with the Celestron StarSense AutoAlign tool.It has made setting up my alignment much, much easier and quicker than if I did the three star alignment by hand. (Around 3 to 5 minutes).Due to the layout of my garden i don't always get to see Polaris or some of the brighter stars, so to have the StarSense seek out more distant and dimmer stars is really great.Setting up the system is very easy, although there is an initial setup where you do need to know your astronomy, or at least have downloaded the rather excellent Celestron SkyPortal app on your phone. (Please remember that if you are using an earlier Celestron NexStar, like my 5SE, you will need the Celestron SkyLink WiFi dongle and a Celestron Auxiliary Splitter to enable you to use both tools). Both of which are available at PicStop I might add.Do yourself a big favour and get yourself one and spend more time marvelling at the night sky than finding those elusive three stars...
A great product which made using my Telescope so much easier.
