With the Celestron StarSense Explorer LT 80AZ Smartphone App-Enabled Refractor Telescope locating objects has never been easier, faster, or more accurate. Within minutes of setting up the telescope, you can be navigating the sky with confidence. Place your phone in the unique StarSense dock and launch the StarSense Explorer app. After aligning your phone to the telescope's optics (a quick, 2-minute procedure), the StarSense Explorer generates a list of celestial objects currently visible. Make your selection, and arrows appear onscreen, guiding you as you move the telescope. When the object is ready to view, the bullseye turns green.

The StarSense Explorer works with most modern smartphones, including iPhone 6 and up and most devices running Android 7.1.2 or later manufactured since 2016.

StarSense Explorer uses patent-pending technology and your smartphone to determine exactly where the telescope is pointed in the night sky. A Lost in Space Algorithm (LISA), like the ones satellites use in orbit to correctly reorient themselves, helps the app match star patterns it detects overhead to its internal database.

StarSense Explorer LT has a simple altazimuth mount, which makes it easy to move the telescope to find your target. A slow-motion altitude adjustment knob helps you fine tune the telescope's pointing position and follow targets as they appear to drift across the night sky. It's all anchored by an adjustable, full-height tripod.

You can expect sharp, bright views through this 80mm refractor. Fully coated glass optics provide increased light transmission, enhancing details in celestial objects. The telescope also includes a 90-degree erect image diagonal, so you can use it during the day to view birds, wildlife, landscapes, and more.

Even if you live in a light polluted city location, StarSense Explorer is advanced enough to be able to pick out Jupiter, Saturn, Venus, the Orion Nebula, double stars, and a few more of the most famous celestial objects.

But if you can take the telescope to an even slightly darker location, more objects will become visible. The entire telescope kit weighs just 9.2 pounds, so it is perfectly portable and easy to bring on your next camping trip or to a remote observing site.

About the Starsense Explorer Range

Have you ever looked up at the night sky and wished you knew more about what you were seeing?

When combined with a smartphone and the StarSense Explorer app, the Celestron StarSense Explorer series of telescopes can easily track the sky and provide a real-time pointing guide to celestial objects. The StarSense app uses your phone's camera and sensors to create an augmented-reality view, allowing you to discover stars, planets, and other objects with ease.

Once you have located an object, the telescope's mount and motorised system automatically adjust to keep it in view, making this range a great option for beginners or anyone who wants to spend more time observing and less time searching for objects. With the Celestron StarSense Explorer, exploring the wonders of the night sky has never been more convenient or exciting.

CELESTRON STARSENSE EXPLORER LT 80AZ
28 August 2022  |

Great beginner telescope, easy to assemble and set up. Adequate performance for the price. The mount could be improved for better sturdiness as it's prone to vibrations when the tube is operated, thus focusing while using a bigger magnification is a challenge.

Great for a novice
31 December 2020  |

This telescope was simple to set up and as a total novice, the Starsense app really helped when trying to locate planets and stars. Easily transportable and lightweight. We are still learning but so far we have had a great experience using this telescope.
