For observing double stars, the surface details of the Moon, and bright planets, the very portable Sky Watcher Skymax 127 MAK Astronomy Telescope with EQ3-2 Mount (10675) is the best choice. Even though it is small, it has a lot of punch. To optimise contrast and image sharpness, its high-resolution, long focal length optical system is multi-coated.
Features
Maksutov-Cassegrain optical design
Primary and secondary mirrors feature proprietary Radiant Aluminium Quartz (RAQ) coatings
Corrector plate featuring Metallic High-Transmission Coatings (MHTC) virtually eliminates chromatic aberrations
127mm aperture, 1500mm focal length, f/11.8 focal ratio
Aluminium tube coated with glossy, black diamond metal-flake finish
It comes with the EQ3-2 equatorial mount, which, when polar aligned, enables you to easily track objects as they travel across the night sky using its slow motion control wires. The mount rests firmly on a large, adjustable aluminium tripod with accessory tray. A bubble level allows for quick and accurate levelling. Slow-motion control knobs allow for continuous manual tracking of celestial objects. The precision mount features full 360 deg worm-gear tracking controls on both R.A. and DEC. axes. Dual metal setting circle dials allow quick location of target using celestial coordinates. An optional polar scope is available for aiding in polar alignment. Optional single-axis and dual-axis D.C. motor drives can be installed for auto-tracking purposes.
The Skymax series, the top line of Maksutov-Cassegrains from Sky-Watcher, offers sharp, contrasty vistas with great levels of detail. Maksutovs are compact telescopes that provide astronomers with a big visual aperture, excellent contrast, and long focal length in a package that is generally regarded as providing clearer images than Schmidt-Cassegrains. These telescopes have focal lengths that are 5-7 times greater than the typical Newtonian or refractor telescope, which allows them to produce higher levels of planetary detail.
Mirrors used in Skymax Maksutovs are made of borosilicate, polished, and coated with our unique Radiant Aluminium Quartz (RAQ) coatings, which result in an astounding 94% reflectivity. To assist eliminate chromatic aberration, all Maksutovs employ a corrector plate. This plate is then coated with our patented Metallic High-Transmission Coatings (MHTC), creating high-quality optics at a reasonable cost.
The quality of each telescope is monitored by means of a Ronchi test and an artificial star test. No effort is spared to reach optimal optical quality
