A fantastic option for the serious novice, the highly regarded Sky Watcher Skyhawk-1145P Reflector Astronomy Telescope with EQ1 Mount (10709) also draws praise from more experienced astronomers. This telescope is a highly capable all-rounder for the observation of the Moon, bright planets, nebulae, galaxies, and star clusters thanks to its handy 114mm of light gathering aperture and excellent parabolic mirror. Included with the EQ1 equatorial mount, which when polar aligned will make it simple for you to use the slow motion control wires to monitor objects as they move through the night sky.
The premium-quality Parabolic Primary Mirrors used in the Sky Watcher Skyhawk-1145P models, which are typically found in larger, more expensive telescopes, minimise spherical aberrations to produce even sharper, higher-contrast images that are full of detail. A parabolic mirror, or more precisely a "paraboloidal" mirror, is ground to a shape that perfectly focuses all incoming light rays on axis. Additionally, to lessen diffraction spikes and light loss, they have 0.5mm Ultra-Thin secondary mirror supports.
High-quality parabolic primary mirrors are used in the Sky Watcher Skyhawk-1145P to eliminate the spherical aberrations that are present in 'quick' focal-length reflectors with spherical primary mirrors. All the light beams are parabolized by the mirrors to focus on a single point, producing clear, contrasty images that are rich in detail.
The Skyhawk-1145P is a recipient of two BBC Sky at Night Magazine group test winner awards.

We bought this for our son who is fascinated by space. The moon is very clear and we found Saturn too. Looking forward to some warmer weather.to make better use of it to be honest bit it was easy to set up and seems to work well.

I bought this as a gift for my girlfriend as part of a moon gazing engagement proposal. Neither of us had ever used a telescope, but it was easy to set up, and despite me initially neglecting to install the angle control screw, we were both stunned at the quality of the moon images we were able to see. You can easily see the texture of the moons circumference and get some perspective of the depth of individual craters. I have no basis of comparison, but I wouldn't hesitate in recommending this model for anyone who wants a good quality hobby telescope, something that will let you spend quality time with friends and family, creating memories that last forever.

Bought this as a first telescope based on reviews. Not as fiddly as I expected, took maybe over an hour to get it going. Everyone who has seen it is very impressed so far. You can always spend more on a first scope but as someone looking for a decent first setup that wouldn't require a garage conversion this was exactly what i was after.
