Frequently Asked Questions

What is a Cassegrain telescope?

The Cassegrain Telescope is a type of reflecting telescope where light reflected from a convex secondary mirror passes through a small hole in the primary mirror.

What is the difference between a Newtonian and Cassegrain telescope?

The key difference between Cassegrain and Newtonian telescopes is that Newtonians use a diagonal mirror to reflect the light through the side of the telescope, whereas the Cassegrain telescope design uses secondary mirrors to reflect light back through a small hole in the centre of the telescope's primary mirror.

Is a Cassegrain better than a reflector?

Both scopes are similar, the Cassegrain uses both glass lenses and mirrors, whereas the reflector design uses just mirrors and is less expensive as a result. Cassegrain tend to offer longer focal lengths and magnifications, plus are also smaller in size too, making them less cumbersome to manourvere.
