These days most cameras have a built-in light exposure meter, this is used to determine the correct exposure for a photograph. Meter calibration establishes the relationship between subject lighting and recommended camera settings. The resulting measurement is usually expressed in shutter speed and aperture combinations that will render an acceptable exposure.
Whilst built-in light exposure meter would determine are more than acceptable exposure, a credible professional photographer, such as a wedding photographer would also have a separate hand held meter for more accuracy.
